SUMMARY:Your AI Ideas\, One Note at a Time
DESCRIPTION:CTLI\, JIBC Library\, The Writing Centre\, and Student Services Hosts AI Week at the JIBC!\nWhat’s World AI Week?\nAs you know\, there is a lot going on in the world of AI. This new and growing technology is spreading like wildfire and upending many of our current educational practices\, among other major disruptions. October 6-10 is World AI Week\, led by an organization called Inspired Minds\, who have organized an international conference on AI during this week.\n \nAt JIBC\, we are planning our own events for World AI week\, and we’d like you to be part of the action! We would like to use this week as an opportunity to gather and discuss how AI is affecting our work as educators.\n \nOur hope is that we can engage with a range of members of our JIBC community to talk about how AI is affecting our practices as educators while considering effective responses to this new technology.\n  \nYour AI Ideas\, One Note at a Time (Atrium Engagement)\nOctober 6th – October 10th\, 2025 | 12:00pm – 1:00pm | In-Person (NW Campus) \nGot thoughts about AI? We want to hear them! Throughout AI Week\, we’re inviting the JIBC community to stop by the atrium and add your voice to our interactive question wall. Grab a sticky note\, share your ideas\, post your questions\, or respond to prompts about generative AI. \n  \nNot sure what to write? Try reflecting on: \n\nWhat questions do you have about using GenAI?\nWhat tools (beyond ChatGPT) have you heard of or tried?\nHow are you (or aren’t you) using AI in your learning or work?\n\n  \nBy the end of the week\, we’ll collect the responses\, highlight common themes\, and share resources to keep the conversation going. This is a chance to make your voice part of how JIBC is exploring AI.\n \n \nRegister here!\n \n \nFor more information email facultydevelopment@jibc.ca.

This workshop\, led by the JIBC Library and Writing Centre\, will walk you through the essentials of giving AI credit where it’s due. \n  \nTogether we’ll explore: \n\nWhy it’s important to acknowledge when AI tools contribute to your work.\nHow to cite AI in APA Style (with examples you can adapt right away).\nWhat to consider when balancing originality\, transparency\, and ethical use.\n\n  \nThis session is practical\, approachable\, and designed to support both students and faculty in navigating these new expectations with confidence. Bring your questions and leave with clear strategies for citing AI responsibly. \n  \n  \nRegister here!\n  \n  \nFor more information email facultydevelopment@jibc.ca. \n  \n\n  \nAbout Our Facilitators\nHunter Hastings\nWriting Centre \n  \nHunter Hastings (he/him) is the JIBC Writing Centre Facilitator and Instructor. He joined the JIBC in September 2019 and leads a team of Student Assistants (Peer Tutors) in supporting JIBC students with academic and technical writing support and formatting papers in APA Style. He collaborates with the Library and CTLI on resources such as the Writing Skills Guide\, Writing Centre Online Resource in the RISE platform\, and APA Formatting MicroLearning Unit Tutorials. Most recently\, he contributed to research on the use of AI at the postsecondary level. He is interested in how AI\, and Generative AI\, can be ethically used as an educational tool to support research and writing skills at the student and publication levels. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nBrianna Henshaw\nOutreach and Copyright Librarian\n \nBrianna Henshaw (she/her) is the Outreach and Copyright Librarian at JIBC\, where she promotes library services\, responds to copyright questions\, and teaches students about library research and APA Style. Before JIBC she worked as a librarian at University Canada West and Douglas College teaching workshops about academic integrity\, research\, and citations. She is interested in the ways that libraries can support ethical and appropriate use of AI in education\, and how to support digital and information literacy in the context of AI generated content.
