Dave Smulders

Program Manager, Faculty Development

Dave currently works at the Justice Institute of BC in the areas of instructional design and faculty development. He has an MA in Classics from the University of Victoria and an MA in Adult Education from the University of British Columbia. Apart from his work at JIBC, he has been an instructor in UBC’s adult education diploma for the past ten years and is the co-author of the book Five Perspectives on Teaching: Mapping a Plurality of the Good with his good friend and teacher, Dan Pratt.

I’m interested in the research on teaching and learning, not only to inform how I do my work but also as part of an active effort to be a good lifelong learner. I play a few different stringed instruments equally poorly, and I also try my hand at building them.
