11 Feb DRAWN TOWARD TRUTH: Visual translation of the Reclaiming Power and Place (MMIWG) Workshop
You are invited to participate in collaboratively reading and visually translating the first chapter of Reclaiming Power and Place: The Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. While it is our duty to know the collective experiences of Indigenous women, girls, their families and communities, the massive size of and the powerful and painful content within this report may feel overwhelming. The purpose of this workshop is to support each other as we bear witness to the MMIWG testimonies, learn from the inquiry, and pay our respects.
An intentional beginning. This workshop will be a beginning  a way for us to start if we decide later to take the larger journey of reading through the entire MMIWG report. Chapter 1 introduces important concepts and gives us a framework for understanding the remainder of the report.
Why stick figure translation? Stick figure visual narratives succeed as a learning tool because they can help us intentionally and conscientiously think  step-by-step  about complex, confusing, or painful issues. These simple comics can help us better SEE important issues and overcome our implicit biases.
