How can the Library Support Digital Literacy?

What is digital literacy?

Why is it important?

Digital literacy is needed to become a digital citizen: individuals who use technology responsibly to interact with the world around them. It is more than just reading online or using the internet. Being a digital citizen encompasses a vast collection of skills that help people use digital tools to their fullest extent through finding, creating, sharing, and evaluating information. This may be in your learning, culture, as well as working life.

What can the JIBC library do to help develop digital literacy?

We are committed to equipping our JIBC community with the digital skills needed to be successful at JIBC and to prepare students for their future careers. We provide a range of services to help develop digital literacy including:

  • Teaching custom information literacy and digital scholarship workshops
  • Supporting students and instructors learning about ethical uses of generative AI
  • Coordinating a technology lending and support program
  • Hosting academic integrity and citation workshops and more…
