WHY WAS THIS PROJECT NEEDED?
This project provides students with accessible and various ways to learn APA Style formatting at their own pace whenever they want. Students are able to check out one element they are interested in or view the series altogether for a brief course on the basic elements of APA Style.
HOW DOES THIS DEMONSTRATE INNOVATION?
This project is innovative for creating a uniquely accessible way for students to independently learn APA Style formatting at their own pace whenever they want while simultaneously revolutionizing the way instructors and peer tutors can share constructive feedback and learning resources for students in an asynchronous learning environment.
PROBLEMS OR CHALLENGES FACED?
Limited by the software’s available features, such as the animations and characters offered in Powtoon. This was solved by revising the original plans and seeing what options organically came out of what features were available, leading to creative interpretations of the software features.
LESSONS LEARNED
A project this lengthy takes a lot of time and collaboration between departments worked best, as everyone contributed their strengths to develop the final products. When software wasn’t able to provide the services needed to create the products as originally conceptualized, these strengths became important foundations in overall teamwork to reconceptualize the project and maintain the original values and outcomes.
