Accessibility at JIBC: A look at the impact of the BC Accessibility Legislation

On March 22nd, we invited Dr. Seanna Takacs, Learning Specialist with Accessibility Services at KPU, to come to our New Westminster Campus to chat with us on where we’re at with the BC Accessibility Legislation and help us understand what our role as educational developers will be in supporting JIBC. Dr. Takacs is no stranger to our school, as she has collaborated with us in the past on our Universal Design for Learning (UDL) projects.

Workshop Description

This workshop will offer two accessibility actions that everyone can take quickly and effectively. Each Accessibility Action will fall under one of the five types of barriers that individuals often encounter. These barrier types will in turn reflect aspects of the Accessible Organizations section of the Accessible BC Act so that in undertaking these Accessibility Actions in whole or in part, staff, Faculty, and admin can be sure that they are working towards compliance with the Act. This workshop is meant to be a quick “how to” to support immediate mobilization of accessibility measures.

Did you attend the workshop? If so, we would LOVE to hear from you. Your feedback helps guide us as we plan for future workshops. Conversely, if you would like your own mini workshop on Accessibility, contact us and we can arrange something for you. Thank you!

If you have any questions about Seanna’s workshop or want to get started on our own JIBC Accessibility Plan, we’d love to chat and see how we can support you. Email us to get chatting!
