Accessibility at JIBC: A Look at the Impact of the BC Accessibility Legislation

We are hosting a workshop for CTLI staff on Accessibility, with Dr. Seanna Takacs, on Wed March 22, 10-12. Seanna is a Learning Specialist with Accessibility Services at KPU and collaborated with us on our Universal Design for Learning projects at JIBC (3 workshops and an open textbook on UDL). Seanna is going to bring us up to date on the BC Accessibility Legislation and help us understand our role as educational developers in supporting JIBC.

This workshop will offer two accessibility actions that everyone can take quickly and effectively. Each Accessibility Action will fall under one of the five types of barriers that individuals often encounter. These barrier types will in turn reflect aspects of the Accessible Organizations section of the Accessible BC Act so that in undertaking these Accessibility Actions in whole or in part, staff, Faculty, and admin can be sure that they are working towards compliance with the Act. This workshop is meant to be a quick “how to” to support immediate mobilization of accessibility measures.
