WHY WAS THIS PROJECT NEEDED?

Not really a project. More like an ongoing experiment in the classroom. AI writing tools burst onto the scene a couple of years ago, disrupting our ways of working, writing, and learning. It is important for instructors to become more familiar with AI in order to take well informed positions on its usage when working with students.

HOW DOES THIS DEMONSTRATE INNOVATION?

Tools like ChatGPT have proven invaluable for all kinds of professionals in our workplaces. Why then would be stubbornly insist that students not use these same tools. My goal is to explore applications of AI where students can both learn from the use of the tool as well as testing and challenging its limitations.

PROBLEMS OR CHALLENGES FACED?

Students and instructors are still learning how to use AI tools to support their work, but the knowledge of best practices continues to change and evolve. Existing classroom policies are also not able to keep up with the swift pace of change in this area.

LESSONS LEARNED

Change continues to happen at a fast pace, so it is necessary to keep experimenting and working with students on appropriate solutions
