The JIBC Live Staff Hub is designed to connect staff across program areas and campuses in a fun and informative way. Staff get points for engaging in the activities and challenges embedded in the site and these points can be redeemed toward prizes! It’s a great place to start conversations, post pictures of your pets and get to know your JIBC community on a different level.

WHY WAS THIS PROJECT NEEDED?

We needed a centralized, virtual platform to connect Staff and to inform staff about JI Live opportunities and initiatives.

HOW DOES THIS DEMONSTRATE INNOVATION?

It was created and is maintained by Staff for Staff. It is a way to connect personally and develop professionally in a fun, safe way.

PROBLEMS OR CHALLENGES FACED?

– Ensuring login was easy and linked directly to desktop credentials (direct access).
– Needed to do a privacy impact assessment.
– Ensuring we could easily add to it and maintain the site.
– Providing a place where staff could post freely.
– Keeping staff engaged in the site.

About Melanie Chernoff and Jennifer Jasper
Melanie Chernoff started her career as a Youth Probation Officer in Abbotsford and Surrey. She has been at JIBC for the past 10 years training the newest youth probation officers in the field. During these years, Melanie became interested in creating opportunities for JIBC staff to connect with one another and have access to personal and professional development…which resulted in the creation of JIBC Live! Melanie is currently the new lead instructor with the Law Enforcement Studies program and is just about to wrap up Cohort #9 of the JIBC Live Practice Labs. If Melanie isn’t doing any of the above…she’s on a golf course somewhere!
Jennifer Jasper is a Program Director with the Centre for Conflict Resolution as well as an instructor in the Liberal Studies area of JIBC. She is an educational leader, an experimenter and she facilitates a mean session of Kahoot!
