UDL Online Workshop Series
On March 29th we hosted Robin Leung, Educational Media Strategist from KPU, for a one-hour online workshop dedicated to instructors and program staff who want to add low-cost, low-production videos to their online courses. This workshop provided pedagogical and technical tools to begin creating engaging videos. Robin shared different types of videos and when to strategically use videos with your students.

Learning Hub: Digital Literacy Issue is on the (virtual) newsstands!
Our newest issue of the Learning Hub is OUT! If you haven’t checked it out yet be sure to have a look/read/listen. Our current issue is themed around the hot topic in BC: Digital Literacy. You’ll find articles such what digital literacy means for educators, how one instructor’s experience has been from pivoting online and back, library resources for digital literacy, and much more. One of the results of our work on the Hub has also been to create a new Resource page on AI to provide a foundation for discussions around ChatGPT and the use of AI in education.
Faculty Drop-In Summer Hours
t’s summer break! We’re taking the summer off of our weekly drop-in schedule to accommodate all the vacations and such that happen. Does that mean you’re stuck for support? No! Reach out directly to ctli@jibc.ca to book your personal one-on-one time with us.
INDC-1110: Essential Skills for Training & Facilitation for JIBC Staff & Faculty
Our fall offering is officially full! We are going to announce dates for a second offering in person and another one online for those who are unable to attend an in-person course. We’re currently planning for November-December.
If you have faculty/instructors who are relatively new to teaching or who need a refresher course, consider this course as a foundational offering.
Currently, offerings are arranged on a program-by-program or division-by-division basis. If you can round up at least 4 instructors who are eager to learn and spend three full days discussing and practising the art of teaching, we can plan to offer the course. I’m available to deliver this class throughout the summer and fall. Contact Dave Smulders for more info.
