Open Textbooks Now! Campaign

As the Justice Institute Students’ Union (JISU) represents JIBC students, we would like to bring more student voices to speak about their experience and how the Open Education Resources can help them succeed during their time at JIBC.

The JISU also invites the BC Federation of Students representative. Together, we would like to create a space to talk more about the campaign to JIBC students.

WHY WAS THIS PROJECT NEEDED?

To bring students awareness about the campaign and the OER available.
To have a platform for them to share their stories, and challenges with the traditional materials in education.

PROBLEMS OR CHALLENGES FACED?

There hasn’t been a platform in which JIBC students have the opportunities to share their perspectives/ stories on how traditional textbooks have become an additional barrier to success in school; and how the OER would help them to remove some financial pressure.

LESSONS LEARNED

JISU would like to create a safe space for students to share their stories and experience with OERs.

Visit JISU’s table for DEMOFEST Day 2 on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 from 10:30am to 12:00pm happening at JIBC’S New Westminster’s Main Campus.
