Totems and longhouses at ‘Ksan Historical Village and Museum

This year Reclaiming Place and Power the final report from the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls was released. (Find the executive summary here:

The following note is from Dr. Jessica Motherwell McFarlane who will be facilitating this workshop:

“I have learned from my TRC workshops that witnessing  painful truths is more supportive if you can learn with peers. This summer I wish to gather caring colleagues in the education community to collaboratively read and perhaps visually transcribe this report so, together, we can witness testimonies, learn the calls for justice specified in the report, and ultimately prepare to integrate these wisdoms into our professional lessons and personal conversations. As a settler-born ally I feel called to conscientiously read and vigorously respond to this report. I want to be ready to extend my decolonization practices based on what we learn from this report. Witnessing the true stories in this report is painful. Together we can be braver, face these hard truths, and care for each other in such a way that we become stronger advocates of Truth and Reconciliation. There will be time set aside for friendly gathering and a potluck meal”.

The meeting place, date and time, and our reading/learning process to be decided based on attendees wishes.
