Faculty & Staff Workshop: AWAKENING TO THE TRC

You are invited to participate in collaboratively reading and transcribing Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation report into a stick figure visual narrative. Transcribing text into stick figure comics can not only improve memory and understanding of complex concepts but also encourage self-reflection. Stick figure visual narratives succeed as a learning tool because they can help us intentionally and conscientiously think — step-by-step — about complex, confusing,

or painful issues. These easy-to-make visual images can actual help us better see others’ perspectives and grow compassion for them.

Let’s read and learn from the Truth and Reconciliation (executive summary, 2015) report by co-creating a visual narrative of the text. This workshop is for anyone who:

  • has not yet read the TRC and wishes to do so in a supportive group.
  • has already read the TRC and would like a refresher
  • wishes to learn how to use stick figure narrative technique to apply to other texts.

WHEN & WHERE:

  • Date: Thursday Jul 11th
  • Time: 10:30 am- 12:00 pm
  • Location: Aboriginal Gathering Place
  • Facilitator: Jessica Motherwell McFarlane, Ph.D.
