CTLI and Sheriff Academy created a 360 web application to simulate real courthouse scenarios including registry, cell blocks, and courtrooms. Sheriffs-in-training will be able to see and experience the courthouse regardless of their physical location. Sheriffs instructors will be able to walk through potential incidents in each part of the courthouse and orient learners to their roles and responsibilities.
AUTHORING TOOL(S) USED
Insta 360, JI Web Hosting, Will go into Blackboard course shell such as Sheriff Fundamentals
WHY WAS THIS PROJECT NEEDED?
Visiting a courthouse requires scheduling and approval which can be difficult and inconvenient for remote learners.
Real-life contexts for the courthouse is critical for learners, especially at the beginning of their journey.
Instructors need a tool to pull up different parts of the courthouse and show it to students, instead of imagining the courthouse environments.
HOW DOES THIS DEMONSTRATE INNOVATION?
It’s the first time we created a 360 immersive courthouse scenario for sheriff training. Sheriffs instructors will be able to use a tool like this to explain their roles and responsibilities, and demonstrate possible actions in different parts of the courthouse. On top of the 360 courthouse tour, we are able to customize multimedia and interactive content based on the needs.
PROBLEMS OR CHALLENGES FACED?
Further work is required to complete the 360 web application.
Need to consider how to integrate it into the existing curriculum.
LESSONS LEARNED
The scope: Instead of filming the entire courthouse, we decided to be purposeful, and film selected rooms that are commonly used in sheriff’s everyday duties.
