I spent a lot of time thinking about how to design my exam after a mid-semester pivot to online learning due to COVID-19. In the end, my exams this term are open book with no time limit. They have a due date but are open for a week or more. I am even open to extending it. Students can go in and out of the exam as many times as they want. I also provided them with a downloadable copy of the exam so they could work on it outside of Moodle. The response has been overwhelmingly positive and my decisions are founded in good pedagogy. Years ago, the psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi  using a technique he called the Experience Sampling Method  handed out pagers and asked people, at random periods throughout the day, to pause and describe what they were doing and their current mood. An early researcher in the field of positive psychology, he wanted to understand which kinds of activities made people feel happy.

BCcampus Research Fellows 2021 – 2022
BCcampus invites research proposals from B.C. post-secondary educators and students who are committed to exploring and improving student learning and eager to conduct and share research with others. For this call, only projects with Indigenous lead researchers and/or projects that are equitably and reciprocally partnered with Indigenous peoples and communities will be considered.
Deadline for submissions is Sunday, February 14, 2021. Awards are typically up to $6,000.
