Praxis is an online, interactive simulation-training environment that delivers experiential learning through scenario- and problem-based exercises. Participants learn how to apply their knowledge and test assumptions – gaining valuable insights that can dramatically increase preparedness.

AUTHORING TOOL(S) USED
Praxis was created through research and development by the JIBC.

WHY WAS THIS PROJECT NEEDED?

Originally developed for first responders and emergency management personnel, Praxis has evolved to serve nearly every industry, including social services, geosciences, financial and community planning sectors.

HOW DOES THIS DEMONSTRATE INNOVATION?

As a cloud-based solution, Praxis can be delivered to any Internet-enabled location – eliminating travel costs and time delays.

PROBLEMS OR CHALLENGES FACED?

– Time and effort to develop scenarios (good things take time and effort).
– Issues with end user internet connection speeds and hardware

LESSONS LEARNED

Improved knowledge retention – Participants “learn by doing” and see the immediate results of applying their skills. Thinking and reflecting further enriches the experience, and as teams learn and collaborate, they take greater ownership for the outcome of their decisions.
