Need some advice?
Dr. Tony Bates, Research Associate of Contact North | Contact Nord, offers some advice to those about to teach online because of the corona-virus:
With the reports of more and more institutions closing campuses because of the corona-virus, and even those not closing advising their instructors to move their classes online, I am wondering what advice or help these instructors are getting from their administrations. So what would I advise?

Beyond The Pivot @BCcampus
from Tracy Roberts, Director, Learning & Teaching
As we start looking beyond pivot toward preparation for fall, we want to share more pathways to the FLO (Facilitating Learning Online) family of courses to help educators build skills, confidence, and new ideas for supporting learning online.
In a nutshell, the FLO family:
- has 3 foundational courses to build skills in design + facilitation in both asynchronous + synchronous setings: FLO Fundamentals, FLO Design, FLO Synchronous. These courses are built on solid learning theory, many opportunities to actually practice facilitating and giving/receiving feedback.
- also has MicroCourses on a variety of topics to expand and amplify learning and skills on things like how to create an video introduction, how to do a land acknowledgment, how to craft compelling discussion prompts
- are also OERs (Open Educational Resources) so YOU can adopt, adapt, and offer them yourselves (we have created a Facilitation Guide to help!).
- have been updated with great skill and care over the years by a community of enthusiasts/facilitators, 3 of whom will be present in this session to answer your questions!
Like many, we’ve changed our practices to avoid zoom-bombing, so please register, but it’s free and all are welcome: https://bccampus.ca/event/implementing-the-flo-family-of-courses-qa-session/
